Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM has more than 15 years of experience in refractive surgery in Indonesia, specializing in Laser in Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery. She completed her Medical Degree in Ophthalmology at the University of Indonesia in 2004 followed by a Fellowship focusing on glaucoma at the University of Indonesia that same year. In 2006 she completed a Fellowship in India to further her study in refractive surgery, particularly LASIK surgery, through an intensive course under direct guidance of Dr. Rupal Shah, one of the leading refractive surgeons in the world. Dr. Rupal Shah is one of the pioneers of LASIK techniques and in the last 12 years has played an active role in the development of Zeiss’ lenticule extraction procedure in refractive surgery.

Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM last meeting with Dr. Rupal Shah in 2020 brought back great memories of their close relationship, both as mentor-student and as colleagues in the field of LASIK surgery. Dr. Rupal Shah is known for her dedications to her students in teaching both LASIK surgical techniques as well as educating them on the important information needed by patients before they decide to get a LASIK surgery and prior the surgery itself. With valuable knowledge she learned from Dr. Rupal Shah and her own LASIK surgical experience, Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti SpM(K), MM has been teaching LASIK surgery to her fellow ophthalmologists in Indonesia at SILC Lasik Center since its establishment in 2017.
From 2006 to 2015, Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM worked at a LASIK clinic in Jakarta. She performed Microcheratom surgeries (using MEL 80 excimer laser machine from Zeiss and Amadeus II Microcheratom from AMO) and Femtosecond Laser surgeries (using MEL 80 excimer laser machine from Zeiss and Ziemer’s LDV Femtosecond laser machine).
Since 2006 Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM has given many presentations on her findings on interesting surgical cases in that LASIK clinic at eye seminars at home and abroad, such as seminars held by PERDAMI (Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association) or INASCRS (Indonesian Society of Cataract and Refraction Surgery). Her most memorable presentation abroad was at the Cataract and Optometrists Meeting in Manchester, England in 2016. Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM was the only representative from Indonesia presenting in front of other world-renowned ophthalmologists, and her presentation on “How to Manage Complications of Flap in Z-Lasik Surgery” was published in the Journal of Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology.

Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM practiced as an ophthalmologist in the glaucoma sub-division at RSUP Fatmawati Hospital, Jakarta from October 2005 to May 2020. She also served as the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at RSUP Fatmawati Hospital for the period 2011-2020 until she filed for early retirement in May 2020. She is currently on the Board of Faculty of Medicine at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Jakarta serving as a clinical educator and national examiner.
Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM completed her Master’s Degree in Management from the Department of Economics at Esa Unggul University, Jakarta in 2017. Her thesis was on developing a business plan for LASIK eye clinics, which she later applied to the clinic she founded in 2017.
With knowledge and experience in refractive surgery, especially LASIK surgery, nine years management experience as Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at RSUP Fatmawati Hospital, and with support from her family, Dr. Sophia Pujiastuti, SpM(K), MM established SILC Lasik Center on April 22, 2017.
