SCHWIND ATOS® (FEMTOSCOND LASER) for SMARTSIGHT

SCHWIND ATOS is intended to create flap and lenticule in human cornea, with delivers ultrashort laser pulses in the non-visible infrared wavelength regime. The extremely short pulses deposit the lowest possible energy for a minimum collateral damage of the surrounding corneal tissue. Precisely tuned sequences of laser pulses are scanned over the predefined location within the corneal tissue creating µm-sized dissections via photodisruptive effects. During this procedure, the patient’s eye is gently secured with vacuum against natural eye movements with the aid of the SCHWIND ATOS Patient Interface. Its curved contact surface allows for minimal applanation pressure on the patient’s eye.

Throughout the treatment, state-of-the-art safety systems monitoring the processes. For best precision and efficiency, the SCHWIND ATOS performs integrity checks and calibration procedures before every treatment, without the need for user inputs.

Three high resolution camera systems allow observation of the complete treatment from the beginning of the docking via laser treatment to the opening of the flap or extracting the lenticule under the accessory microscope. Two touch displays, the main Monitor and the Surgery screen provide easy and intuitive interaction with the SCHWIND ATOS Application Software for Treatment Planning, Settings, Manual access and progress monitoring.

The SCHWIND ATOS application software offers the following modules for refractive treatments :

  •  FLAP
Instead of a mechanical microkeratome blade, the femtosecond laser creates a separating layer in the corneal stroma. The resulting flap can be lifted to change the intrastromal shape for refractive correction by laser ablation using an Excimer laser.
  • LENTICULE
A refractive correction is achieved by a series of separating layers inside the corneal stroma using the femtosecond laser. With appropriate tools, the created intrastromal lenticule can be dissected and removed though peripheral incision.

SCHWIND AMARIS® 1050RS for LASIK and SMARTSURFACE

SCHWIND AMARIS technology provides the ideal treatment of short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, higher-order visual defects and presbyopia. Very high ablation speed enables the eye specialist to complete the procedure in an extremely short period of time. The corneal tissue is preserved and an exceptionally smooth surface is achieved. The unique eye tracking system actively compensates for even the slightest eye movements.

In this way, the positioning of the next laser pulse is adjusted at lightning speed – and provides for the greatest possible treatment reliability. SCHWIND AMARIS laser systems have proven reliable in thousands of applications and offer one of the leading technologies for laser eye surgery. This is documented by excellent clinical results in numerous scientific publications. AMARIS technology has earned many national and international awards.

  • Maximum precision–minimal treatment time > 1050 laser pulses per second, automatic fluence level adjustment.
  • Extremely safe and reliable through compensation of the slightest eye movements > Eye tracking in seven dimensions.
  • Very smooth corneal surfaces > Extremely small laser spot.
  • Gentle tissue blation > Intelligent thermal control system.
  • Continuous monitoring > Constant measurement of corneal thickness.

SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS has two energy level, which matched to one another, ensuring the perfect combination of speed and precision. About 80 percent of the corneal tissue is removed very quickly with high energy. A gentler beam ablates the remaining 20 percent, thus assuring an especially smooth surface.

SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS has precise eye tracking movement. Even under complete concentration, the eyes make slight, involuntary movements which cannot be suppressed also when the patient fixates on the green light. That’s why exact centring and constant positioning of the eye is especially important for a precise and safe procedure. With the SCHWIND AMARIS eye tracker, all of the movements which the eye can make are recorded and actively compensated 1050 times per second.

The actual laser treatment takes only a few seconds. For a myopia in LASIK of -8 dioptres, for example, the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS ablates the required quantity of corneal tissue in about 11 seconds. The complete treatment of both eyes takes about ten minutes.

Clinical studies with SCHWIND AMARIS technology have shown that patients often see better after laser treatment than they did previously with glasses or contact lenses. Nearly all patients see just as well as they did before when they wore corrective lenses. The results of the studies also show an improvement in contrast sensitivity.
