The femtosecond laser creates a lenticule (lens-shaped piece of tissue) by cutting two sections of corneal tissue (1, 2) and makes a small incision for lenticule removal (3).

The surgeon
removes the lenticule through the incision (4). This changes the curvature of the cornea and corrects the refractive error.
